Ocean

This morning we started learning about oceans.

I found out that the ocean only looks blue because red, orange and yellow is absorbed more strongly than blue. So when the white light from the sun enters the ocean only blue gets returned. It is the same for the sky.

Later I want to find out why coral is so important to the ocean.

Pandas

They weigh in between 70-150 kgs. Their 60-70cm tall. They have black and white fur. What are they? They are Giant Pandas.

Giant Pandas live in China. Food is their main priority so they normally live in a rain forest, forest or jungle mean they are closer to food. Pandas are very shy so the live alone.

Pandas are huge so they need lots of food. Bamboo is 99% of their diet and they eat 12-38 kgs of it everyday. Contact with humans is number one their “don't do list” so they will take harder roots to find food to avoid it.

Since Giant Pandas are so BIG they have very few predators. If a predator tried to attack them they will fight back. Like most other bears pandas will use their teeth and claws. Although pandas are big cubs are the opposite and will be killed easily. The cub predators are : Jackals, Snow Leopards and Martens. Pandas are now protected by the law so humans can not hunt them.

Just like koalas, pandas are mammals that sleep a lot. They sleep for 12-16 hours a day. Pandas will live for up to 20 years old in the wild. They spend lots of their day finding food.

Fun facts

There are less than 2000 pandas left in the wild and less than 100 in captivity. Their scientific name is Ailuropoda Melanoleuce. There are 2 species of pandas. The Giant panda and the Red panda. Unlike most mammals pandas birth out there back side.

These Pandas need your help!!!

Free day

At Hurupaki School every Friday we should have a free day.
A free day is a day you get to chose what you do. There will be an amount of options. Math, Reading, Writing, Art, Dance and a list of sports. You will get to chose three of the options one for each block.

Now here are my reasons.
Firstly every student has a favourite subject, mine is Art. I will get to do Art for a whole block and learn new skills.

Secondly it will let us work outside in the environment instead of always being inside. This will let us work in a bigger area where it is not as loud and we can focus.

Lastly if we chose sport we can get fit and sports help us with our health and if we chose work we can smarter but we won't get free time.

Therefore I believe that Hurupaki School should have a free day

Writing

Curing up in a ball, I cover my face. The sand in the wind feels like little pins pushing into my skin.
Stretching my legs I stand up to hear a horrorible sound, the sound was so bad it almost mad my ears bleed. After falling back over I pear over at mum and Ollie, mum looks like she is falling off a cliff with her mouth wide open and screaming. Ollie is bent over face away from the noise and the flying sand. Then the noise stops and so does the flying sand everyone on tuatara beach looks like they have seen the scariest movie ever, except one person that one person is take a photo of a plane a plane that just flew over tuatara beach.

Hurupaki School should not wear uniform

LPG: 2

This is my writing to follow on my plan.

Hurupaki school uniform costs in between 30 and 60 dollars and most mufti cost about 10 to 20 dollars which is much cheaper. Every time I move up a year I normally need a bigger size t-shirt or my t-shirt from the year before is dirty, both ways I need a new t-shirt. To follow that on I still have a few more reason why uniform should not be worn. One of those reasons is that our uniform is thick that is good in the winter but in the summer it gets hot and if we had mufti we could sport t-shirts which is thin. Also mufti shows people’s personalities depending on what colour they wear and what they would like you to see them as. Also uniform is expensive so people may not be able to afford it and have to go to a different school. By my opinion there should be no uniform at Hurupaki School.

Thursday 1 June 2017

Hamburger Plan

This week we did some persuasive writing about Hurupaki School uniform. I decided that we should not wear it. These are my reasons why.

For discovery time we did a work sheet where u put a whole lot a questions starting with I wonder about your topic mine is SLIME

This week we learned to double and halfs it's easy but it's very helpful.
Example: 5 x 644 = 3220. I know because if u double 5 u get 10 and if u half 644 u get 322.
     10 x 322 = 3220
